Where did butter tarts (or pecan/raisin) tarts originate from? They are sooo good but I can't seem to find any history on them..

Re: Gooey Butter Tarts
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 5:33 PMMy mom used to tell me that pecan pies came from rum pies. The pecan farmers needed an outlet for their nuts, so they started putting pecans into older-than-the-hills rum pies and marketed them as pecan pies. That's why pecan pies are traditionally made with rum.
(I'm ultra-strict about not drinking any alcohol, but I keep a bottle of Bacardi's solely for baking pecan pies. Fie on rum flavoring!)
